Time zone: British / GMT
Name: Nyx Tallise

Age: 25

Gender: Female

Species: Naiad

Class You Teach: Water Bending

Ability: Water Bending

Likes: Long, Hot bubble baths, Rain storms and Mountain springs

Dislikes: Dry climates, Being indoors and people who don’t understand that no means no.

Personality: Nyx is generally a fairly laid back type of girl. She usually sounds pretty tripped out and tends to have long pauses before replying, almost as if she’s stuck in a permanent deep thought, or just not paying any attention. She often smiles, even when angry or upset. She likes to be surrounded with fluid shapes and bright colours, and nearly always can be found outside. She refuses to wear shoes. Ever. She isn’t so much a people person as she doesn’t exactly go out of her way to meet people, but they tend to meet her and she likes to befriend them once their pats have crossed. Of course, she won’t necessarily go out of her way to do this though, it just sort of happens. She also has a problem sticking to just one task, unless it allows her to use her natural powers, where it then becomes difficult to stop her focusing on just one task. Like all Naiad’s, she has a jealous streak that is very overpowering and can change her personality completely.

History: Nyx was born of the water, the coming together of Castalia the nymph and a lonely water demi-god. At an early age she was left alone in a small spring high in the mountains of Greece. She sang sweet melodies that lured many a young man to his inevitable drowning in her water. At night she would dance, creating ripples atop the water to create intricate patterns. She lived alone and was content, until many years later, as she approached adulthood, a young human boy caught her eye. Desperate to meet him, she tried to lure him to the spring through song as dance, something that had worked well before, but he did not come. Instead he merely meandered by her spring each morning and night on the path into the grassy areas and back to his home. Infuriated, she persisted with a desire that neared anger. Scorned by his not noticing her, she sought a way to leave her pool. Contacting her mother, she learnt that she could leave at any time but that she would need to return to ensure that the pool did not dry up and thus kill her. In a moment of clarity, Nyx thought of a way to ensure her pool never ran dry. Scooping some water into small vials and a locket that she wears without failure, she was free to leave her pool. Leaving gave her a new found freedom that she had not known before. Making her way to the village, she noted that she was unclothed, as all nymphs are. Stealing away a sheet, she fashioned a simple shift dress to cover herself though despite her best efforts, the hem of the shift seemed constantly wet. In the night, she found the young mans home and broke in. She gently woke him by drawing circles on his forehead, her fingers leaving wet trails. He was startled at his visitor but calmed as she stroked his hair. However, when she spoke to him, she learnt he could not hear her. He was deaf. She didn’t care – she knew she wanted to keep this man, unlike those that had sought her out. They kissed, and Nyx felt true happiness. But it was short lived. Unable to truly control her watery powers, she kissed the man deeply, water pouring into his lungs. He struggled and she shrieked, waking his parents. It was too late. The man slipped away under her water and she was devastated. His parents sought her destruction, hunting her. Running from the village, she vowed not to return to the village in her lifetime and instead fled from country to country, town to town. She stayed no more than a few days in each, never growing close to another. She even visited her mother, only to find she had merged into the water herself, no longer a conscious entity. Leaving the continent, Nyx found that as time passed, the grief eased. A few years later, she felt very little grief though it still pained her to remember her young man. Eventually, she joined a travelling troupe as a dancing girl for the instrumentalists and she danced in festivals and parties with ribbons in her hair and wild, flowing skirts that reminded her of home. She remained wearing the locket, never opening it and constantly aware of the water in there. Whenever she became ill, a single drop of her spring water revived her though as her vials thinned, she used it sparingly. A year later, she felt a strange feeling, compelling her to travel. She left the group, and travelled, following the pull where it took her, and ultimately, she found herself at a river mouth in England. Curious, she called for assistance and was met by a trio of Naiad’s that lived in the river. She stayed for a while, learning to control her water and use it to her advantage. Slowly, the world around her changed and the river dried up. With her friends gone, Nyx decided to honour them by passing on the knowledge of controlling water, and thus applied at the Academy for the position of water bending tutor.

Additional info:
1. She remains wearing the locket – never takes it off.
2. She has never felt an attraction to anyone except for her deaf boy.
3. She cries sometimes in her sleep for her lost friends.
4. She always says she was born of the water itself, never truly naming her parents, but she doesn’t refer to her mother when she is stressed.
5. She love shiny things.
